Metro to sponsor B and Lower at KMTC’s Boxing Day meet

As the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) signature event, the Boxing Day horse race meet, draws closer, corporate support continues to stream in, with one of the country’s leading stationery and computer supplies store being the latest to come onboard.

At a simple presentation ceremony at the company’s head office on Quamina Street on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer of Metro Office and Computer Supplies, Avia Lindie, presented a cheque for 1.2 million dollars, which will go towards the top prize in the feature event- the B and Lower.

That race will go for nine furlongs and is the most lucrative one on the eight-race card. On hand to receive the sponsorship was Honourary President of the club, Justice Cecil Kennard.

Lindie told the gathering of media operatives and staff of Metro that the company, and by extension, its management hierarchy has had a long and fruitful association with Justice Kennard that goes way beyond the race track. She highlighted that the Kennards and the Ramnarayans/Kharags have been family friends for close to four decades.

Justice Kennard said Metro has always been supportive of the events organised by KMTC, noting that Ramnarayan Kharag, the father of current president of Metro, Ron Ramnarayan, has his name on one of the pavilions at the Bush Lot Farm race track. Kharag was also president of the club from 1955 to when he migrated in the 70s.

Meanwhile, despite the rainfall experienced across the country over the past few weeks, Justice Kennard assured that the track has remained in good condition, conducive to racing.

The day’s activities will gallop off at 12:00h with rivalry expected in the L Class Non-Winners; E and Lower; West Indian-bred Maidens and Guyana Bred H1 and Lower; Two-year-old Guyana-bred Maidens; L Class Open; B and Lower; G1 and Lower; and J1 and Lower and Two-year-old Guyana-bred.
