President requests new list of nominees for GECOM’s Chair

The Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo will be responding to President, David Granger on the unacceptable list of nominees for the post of Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission, tomorrow.

A brief statement from Mr Jagdeo’s office today (Monday, January 9,2017) says the Leader received official correspondence today from the President on the widely reported unacceptable list.

“The President urged that a new list of persons who are “not unacceptable” be sent for his consideration” the statement said.

Yesterday, President Granger at the second annual media brunch hosted by him, broke the news to the members of the corps and indicated his favour for a either a former or sitting Judge of the Commonwealth ignoring the second constitutional provision, of “fit and proper” person.

Mr Jagdeo’s office promises to make his new communication to the President public when it happens.
