‘Spotlight’ on winners of premier talent show

A typist clerk, a machine operator and a group of friends who love to dance got the ultimate chance to showcase their talents and change their lives forever when they entered Guyana’s premier talent show “The Spotlight” and emerged winners.

The beautiful, vibrant, talented but a little shy Delisha Wright copped the second place on the talent show and shared with the News Room what prompted her to rise to the occasion and compete. She received a cash prize of 500 thousand dollars.

Delisha hails from the West Coast Demerara village of Vergenoegen where she grew up singing in the church and performing at concerts, weddings, funerals and other functions but it was the prompting of her father and fate that lead her to the Spotlight.

This talented young lady said her experience on the show was “awesome” making reference to the stage, lights and her interaction with the judges and performers.  She made no qualms about the position she secured in the competition, she is quite content since the experience is one to be remembered for a lifetime.

Twenty-one-year-old musician, Trevaun Selman, the third place winner got off to what he described as a bad start, since during his first audition, his guitar string burst, but he went back the following day and as his luck would have it, he made it through to the finals. Trevaun said he learnt about the show on the same day of the first audition through a friend, a decision he hasn’t regretted. He secured a 250 thousand dollar cash prize.

News Room also got a chance to interview members of the winning group, who secured the whopping 2.5 million dollar prize, Euphoria.

The group expressed happiness for the exposure and popularity they gained following their appearances on the Spotlight, now many more Guyanese know, the name Euphoria.

Carlus Persaud, Seon Douglas and Jemal Ellis, they are the faces of the hip-hop dance group Euphoria and they credit the Spotlight talent show for their new found success and fame.

The Spotlight is a televised talent competition that seeks to open doors for talented Guyanese across the country to showcase their unknown talents.

Season one of the show was aired on E1 every Wednesday night and comprised 10 episodes. It is an E-Networks and Red Entertainment production.
