Just under a week ago, dozens of young people from Linden, Region 10 took part in a Self-worth and Entrepreneurship training at the Watooka House Complex.

The session which was attended by just over forty persons between the ages of 14 and 30 was facilitated by the Come Alive Network Incorporated (CANI), a Non-Governmental Organization which focuses on youth development.

During the engagement, activities aimed at highlighting the importance of enabling effective and continuous teamwork in communities were conducted. In addition, embracing individuality and self-discipline as catalysts for achieving success were focus areas.

Training also focused on the many ways in which young entrepreneurs and leaders can market themselves; more particularly, principles that are fundamental to starting and maintaining small businesses. Writing résumés was foremost on the agenda along with the qualities and practices of successful leaders. This was certainly well received by the participants and is intended to assist them not only in their businesses which they now plan to embark on or their job, but also in their homes with families and even at the community level.

Kadeem Gordon, Managing director of CANI pointed out that the team moved to engage Lindeners after young people there, through social media, saw the results of similar activities which were held in Berbice, Region 6.

Footwear was distributed to several school-aged children from various institutions, another focus of the CANI through its national shoes drive.during the engagements where the young people were challenged to bring out their hidden capabilities and talent that CANI agreed that Linden is indeed a place where opportunities including job-wise, are scarce, not because the people there are not talented but because the investments are just not there.

Director of Sport Christopher Jones and the National Sports Commission, Mr. Vishnu Doerga and Action Coach Guyana, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, Floor-it Guyana, Eco Atlantic Investment Company, NICIL, the Carter’s, JACS restaurant, Lasleek Fashion and Le Shanette’s Cupcakes and Treats all played sponsorship roles, assisting CANI to reach out to young people.
