As plans progress for the staging of several Mashramani competitions under the management of the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, much music is promised which will serve as the pulse of the National celebrations.

With Mashramani 2017 almost upon us, one of the contenders, Jada Harry  has entered for the 2017 Junior Calypso Competition.

Her entry is titled ‘lowe meh leh meh bubble’ and is produced by Bonny Alves’ out of the SSIGNAL Production Studios.

Hers is but one of 11 entries carded to compete for the Junior Calypso Monarch crown this year. The other entry from the Ssignal studio is Paul Chris P. Clark from Parika under the moniker ‘Chris P.’

His entry to the National Junior Calypso competition addresses the ‘2017 Budget.’

The other contenders are Dorwin Stuart, Akeem Adams, Romichelle Brummel, Michael Small, Jennile Cumberbatch, Ryan Jagnaraine, Naomi Alsopp, Faith Corrica, and the reigning Junior monarch TShannaCort. Their songs are Living Regret, Piracy in the Music Industry, Respect Teachers, A Nation’s Plea, Come Together, Simply the Best, Gun Crime, Shall We continue to Sin, and When/Where in the Innocence Gone respectively..

Whoever wins the title would advance to the Adult competition to take on the more senior contenders.

However, that is just one of the prizes on the offer for that lucky person. Additionally, this year the winner of the junior monarchy would also be entered as Guyana’s representative to the Caribbean Junior Calypso competition. That regional competition is scheduled to be staged in August of 2017 as part of Carifesta XIII in Barbados.

Come February 4, the National Junior Calypso competition would be staged at the National Cultural Centre where the decision for the local competition rests in the hands of the judges. (Ministry of Education)
