150 student nurses to resit exams; Education Ministry facilitating process

The Ministry of Education will be assisting the Public Health Ministry to facilitate the rewriting of the nurses’ examination, following the leakage of the multiple choice aspect of that exam in 2016.

Some 150 student nurses will re-sit the examination on February 21.

Public Health Minister, Volda Lawrence during a press conference today (Monday, February 06, 2017) in her ministry’s boardroom, Brickdam revealed that all parties involved have agreed to a number of things. These include the Ministry of Education preparing the multiple choice questions, administering the questions and recruiting a group of persons to mark the essay aspect.

She noted further that on February 28 these exam results would be presented to Public Health Ministry and it is expected that the declaration of those results would be presented to the students by March 2.

Following the leaking of the multiple choice aspect of the nursing exam during the latter part of 2016, the students have been in limbo.

Minister Lawrence said after assuming her post at the Ministry, she met with students, listened to their concerns and then a meeting was held with the Nursing Council. Having looked at the exam process, it was agreed that one of the ways to eliminate the issue of exam papers being leaked and other problems would be to seek the assistance of the Education Ministry.

As it relates to the police investigations, Minister Lawrence said it is still ongoing.

One of the nurses explained that it has been stressful for the nurses but they are happy that a resolution has been met to the benefit of all parties involved.
