GPOC introduces online shipping and delivery service to boost declining revenue stream

The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) has joined the e-commerce market and will be competing against other online shipping agents that create the bridge between online shoppers and their items.

On Thursday GPOC officially rolled out its new ‘Online Mailbox and Delivery’ service called Swift Shipping that will be done in collaboration US Company, PAKYA from Miami, Florida.

According to Postmaster General, Karen Brown the added line of service being offered by the Post Office was done with the mind set of increasing the revenue base of the local postal system.

“As the Post Office claims its share in the very competitive e-commerce market, swift shipping is expected to capitalize on the Corporation’s spread to boost our declining revenue stream,” said Brown.

The Postmaster General also added that GPOC hopes in the near future that the weekly service can be increased but remains confident that the service will standout since delivery will be countrywide.

PAKYA President, Martha Ramos said she is confident that all citizens are going to be able to enjoy the service going forward for all their online purchases.

Ramos further added her company is working “with many post office as well as private sectors, so we have a lot of experiences in handling the purchases. It’s very easy to become a customer, you register online, we give you your code and you can shop away and we will bring it home for you.”

One feature of Swift Shipping for customers is the option to consolidate their packages for shipment to Guyana for only US $6.25 for the first pound and US $3 for each additional pound.

GPOC is offering delivery in Georgetown, Mahaicony, Weldaad, Fort Wellington, Rosignol, New Amsterdam, Skeldon, McKenzie, Essequibo, Acquero, Mabaruma, Mathews Ridge and Port Kaituma.
