Region Six Health Services boosted with $40M in ambulances and other vehicles

With the aim of improving the delivery of health services in Region Six, the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in New Amsterdam handed over two ambulances, a dental bus and a motor car to the Regional Department.

The motor vehicles were handed over to the Director of Public Health Services, Jevaughn Stephen during a simple handing over ceremony held at the RDC in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Media personnel were told that the dental bus will be used to provide dental services to schools across the region while the ambulances will be dispatched to selected hospitals.

Regional Executive Officer (REO), Kim Stephen disclosed that the vehicles have cost the RDC over $40M and it is her hope that they will be used for their intended purposes and be properly managed.

She told reporters that this initiative is in keeping with the RDC quest to provide enhanced services in the ancient county.

“We want to implore on the department, in particular, the drivers of these vehicles to operate with care because we would have invested and we want to ensure that the general populist of region six enjoy the benefit of the services” she urged. This was also supported by Regional Chairman, David Armogan, who called on the Public Health Services’ Director to put measures in place since there have been many instances in the past where the ambulances crashed and damaged in a short period of time.

This he explained will ensure that each hospital in the region will have its own ambulance.
