    By Stacy Carmichael-James

GTT is investing some 30 Million US dollars for the development of a high-speed fibre optic network to serve some 50 thousand businesses and homes around Georgetown.

This was revealed tonight (Wednesday, March 1, 2017) by the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd during a Business Solutions cocktail hosted at the Marriott Hotel, Kingston, Georgetown. This, he said is to reassure customers in the capital city that they are not left out of the company’s plan of providing the next generation of products.

According to Nedd, the company will not be waiting until the liberalization of the telecommunications sector in mid-2017, rather it would be rolling out new products and services at reduced costs to its customers.

Liberalization, he said would finally free the market of uneven competition. He promised that GTT is on the verge of something “huge” with faster networks to be made available.

At the weekend the telecommunications company lauched its LTE high-speed internet service in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supernaam), which would be available to all the villages along the coast.

Installation and monthly cost is just over $5,000 and as part of the package customers are being offered one-month free service.

Plans are also in the pipeline to digitize the capital city through various technological avenues.
