Shake up among Permanent Secs imminent;Trevor Thomas terminated from Health Ministry-Harmon

Permanent Secretary, Trevor Thomas’ services has been terminated at the Ministry of Public Health effective March 1, 2017.  This was one of the recommendations that came from the Cosbert Board of Inquiry into the Health Ministry’s procurement and related practices.

However, Minister Joseph Harmon who made the announcement today (Thursday, March 2, 2017) says Mr Thomas will remain in the Public Service.

In addition to this move, he says, Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence has already started taking actions on the other consequential matters that stemmed from the Cosbert Inquiry.

“She’s (Minister Volda Lawrence) actually gone around to some of the units where procurement is taking place and actually seen for herself what is happening and therefore you can expect some radical changes taking place where those things are concerned” he said.

In the interim, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Collette Adams will execute the functions of P.S.

Harmon also explained that Thomas’s move is just one of many to come among Permanent Secretaries in coming days.
