Several senior officers of the Guyana Police Force have been shifted from their original posts and replaced by others following a “management audit” which was recently conducted within the Force.

The management audit included the assessment and performance of officers and their departments, units and branches; as a result, the officers who headed the ‘C’ Division, Tactical Services Unit, Mounted Branch and Strategic Management Unit have all been removed. The Deputy Commander of ‘A’ Division was also removed.

These re-assignments become effective tomorrow (Monday, May 15, 2017) and News Room understands that consequently, Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus who was serving as the Deputy Commander of ‘A’ Division will be heading the police ‘C’ Division, making his responsibilities greater.

The vacant position left by him in ‘A’ Division will now be taken over by Senior Superintendent, Edmond Cooper who was previously in charge of the Strategic Management Unit; this position also makes Cooper’s responsibilities greater. The previous commander of ‘C’ Division, Senior Superintendent, Kevin Adonis will now be shifted to the Tactical Services Unit to head that department.

Senior Superintendent, Hugh Denhert, up to Friday was the Officer-in-Charge of the Tactical Services Unit, will now be posted to the Strategic Management Unit, a department where officers are basically confined to desk duties.

One other movement would be that of Deputy Superintendent, Patrick Todd, who will now be posted to the Mounted Branch, the department within the force which oversees the cars and rearing of the Force’s animals. Todd was a middle level manager at the Tactical Services Unit working under Senior Superintendent, Denhert.

Approached for a comment this morning, Assistant Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine confirmed the movements to the News Room.

He stated that in addition to the management audit conducted by the force, the movements were necessary given the fact that some officers are preparing to head into retirement while there are many senior officers who are on leave from the job.
