Woman blames New Amsterdam Hospital Staff for baby’s death

29-year-old Bibi Gildharry of Smithfield, New Amsterdam is pleading for justice for her child who died hours after being born via a C-Section on May 24, 2017, at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

The grieving mother is claiming that she was 40 weeks pregnant when she visited the New Amsterdam Public Hospital as was requested by doctors there, ahead of her due date.

According to the woman, on May 23rd her water bag (amniotic sac) burst indicating that she was ready to deliver her first baby.

The woman said she informed the doctors and nurses on duty but was told that she was not ready and should return to her bed. Gildharry told the News Room earlier on Monday (June 12, 2017) that she started having pain from the moment her amniotic sac was ruptured until the following day.

She added that during that time she noticed the baby had stopped moving and immediately informed the medical professionals at the hospital.

The woman disclosed that after she failed to deliver the baby normally, she requested a C Section as the baby was too big.

She related that after the doctor and nurses had decided to go for the C-Section, she delivered the baby, but by that the time, the baby was already dying.

According to Gildharry, she believes that the baby died from suffocation and related that if the health officials at the New Amsterdam Hospital had acted earlier to her pleas, then she could have had her healthy baby boy.

She told the News Room that after the delivery, the baby was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died.

Director of Regional Health Services, Jevaughn Stephen when contacted disclosed that while all the information into the incident is not clear, he intends to look in into the matter and ensure an investigation is conducted to determine the cause of the child’s death.
