Though he is looking forward to taking up a leadership role in the new Ministry of Public Service under the Ministry of the Presidency, Dr Rupert Roopnarine said he did not request to be removed from his post as Minister of Education.

Speaking to reporters before the sitting of the National Assembly today (June 15, 2017), the reassigned minister also disclosed that while he was consulted on the change, his party, the Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) – which forms part of the APNU arm of the coalition administration – was not.

Nonetheless, Dr Roopnarine said he is looking forward to his new role within the A Partnership for National Unity/ Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) administration.

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, on Tuesday (June 13, 2017) announced that there have been changes in the portfolios held by both Education Ministers Dr Roopnaraine and his junior, Nicolette Henry.

As a result of Dr Roopnarine’s reassignment, Henry will now take up the post as Education Minister.

Dr Roopnarine’s appointment as Minister of Public Service is already in effect.
