Timothy Thompson was man among boys on the opening day of the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF), leading Marian Academy to a 72-8 win over School of the Nations on Monday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

While the score was extremely lopsided it was the Thompson show, which was a highlight reel of dunks to go along with 35 points, which was almost half the team’s total. He also had 18 rebounds. School of the Nations displayed exactly how to build a brick wall with the amount bricks they were jacking up throughout the game.

While Marian Academy defended as unit, Nations simply shot themselves in the foot with excessive turnovers and bad shots. Marian will now move on in the tournament, while Nations will have a year to think about how to get better as a unit.

In Girls action, Marian Academy continued their winning ways with a 19-9 win against New Amsterdam Multilateral. Marian again displayed great defence, holding New Amsterdam to zero point in the first half to easily take control of the game. Jada Mohan scored 11 of Marian’s 19 points.

Meanwhile, St. Rose’s was sent packing earlier than expected when Bishops’ High pulled off the game of their lives to upset the Church Street school 37-36. No one for Bishops’ scored in double digits, with Roydon Glasglow’s nine being the highest.

Mackenzie High took care of President’s College in Under-14 action with a 29-21 win with DeMarcus Adams leading the way for the Linden based school with 10 points and five boards.

MacKenzie also won their first Under-19 match to send New Amsterdam Multilateral packing with a 41-24 loss. Kevlon Cadogan had nine points and nine rebounds in the win.

The tournament will continue each day for the remainder of the week with all category finals scheduled for July 9 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
