Banks DIH will kick off their national leg of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets football competition on Saturday (July 08, 2017) after the launching of the event on Thursday morning (July 06, 2017).

Brand Manager of Guinness, Lee Baptiste shared his expectations of the national championship to media operatives at Banks’ Thirst Park Headquarters.

“This is a reminder of our commitment to the development of the community through sport and over the three day period we know we will see some exciting football with the teams from all across the nation, starting from Saturday,” Baptiste stated.

Baptiste also touched on the possibility of having Caribbean teams participate since the Caribbean aspect of the event has been squashed.

“We have not looked at any teams coming in but it’s a possibility we can look at going forward, everything is a financial cost and we would have to discuss it with the other countries but that is why we have spread the tournament throughout the country so we can cushion not having the Caribbean tournament,” Baptiste stressed.

Communication Manager of Banks DIH Troy Peters also noted that Banks is keen on sustaining the tournament in spite of Caribbean aspect being squashed.

“The Guinness tournament really started here and we have a large following and will look to sustain it even with the problem it has had in the Caribbean but the support we receive in the various areas is one thing we will definitely want to continue,” Peters highlighted.

The tournament will kick off on Saturday in Linden before heading to Pouderoyen on July 14 with the curtains coming down on July 15 at the Demerara Park which is opposite thirst park. All match nights are set for a 20:00h start.
