The Guyanese male and female teams continue to display their superiority in the team tournament of  the junior Caribbean Squash Championship with more wins as they eye a 13th straight title when action continued at the Georgetown Club courts.

After their dominant wins against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana was finally tested in the male category by Jamaica on Thursday evening.

Guyana won the match 3-2 but had to sweat a little at the end after gaining a comfortable 2-nil advantage when Michael Alphonso of Guyana topped Aman Dhiman in three straight sets at 11-2, 11-4 and 11-2 and boy’s under-15 champion Shomari Wiltshire continued the dominance with a perfect win over Sebastian Levy.

Wiltshire ran through the Jamaican by only losing three combined points in the entire match with each set ending 11-1 apiece.

However, the Jamaican did not lie down and came surging back when Adam Ardito and Jonathan Walker won two straight set to even the match at two all.

Ardito defeated Guyana’s Daniel Islam 3-1 at 11-6, 11-5, 4-11 and 11-6 while Walker topped Alexander Cheeks in a brilliant five setter that ended 9-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-13 and 11-6.

Nevertheless, team captain Ben Meckdeci brought it home for the Guyanese with a tough straight set victory over Tahjia Lumley that went 11-8, 11-9 and 11-3.

Meanwhile the women on Friday morning took care of Trinidad and Tobago with a 3-2 win to remain undefeated as well.

Makeda Harding and Kirsten Gomes dominated for Guyana with 3-nil wins while Taylor Fernandes was on cruise control with a 3-1 against Alexandria Yearwoord.

However, Guyana’s Rebecca Low fell to Marie Claire Rose Barcant 3-1 while Madison Fernandes retired hurt during her second set after winning her first set 11-9 against Chloe Walcott.

Both Guyana and Barbados have played undefeated in the team competition and with one match remaining for both countries they will have to face each other on Saturday in both the male and female categories for the 2017 teams’ title when action starts at 10:00h.
