The Aliann Pompey Invitational was officially launched on Tuesday morning at the Guyana Olympic House where it was revealed that all systems are in place for the successful hosting of the event slated for Saturday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

Guyana will have a chance to see some exciting track and field action when the second edition of the Aliann Pompey Invitational is held this Saturday.

The event which was regarded as highly successful and entertaining by many after its inaugural year last year is set to even bigger and better with the World Renowned Kim Collins set to be the main attraction of the event.

Commonwealth gold medallist, Aliann Pompey at the event highlighted that she is “extremely pleased with the support of the event” during the launching.

In addition Pompey revealed that the total prize money has gone up from US$6,000 to US$18,500 after adding prize structures to the men’s triple jump as well as the 400 men and women hurdle events.

Director of Sport Christopher Jones also pinpointed the government’s support of the event, noting that meet such as these brings “development” to the country and their athletes.

Marketing Manager of Fly Jamaica in Guyana, Carl Bowen noted that Pompey’s love for sport is the main reason the company is onboard, urging the public to come out and support the athletes of Guyana in their quest.

Meanwhile beverage giants Banks DIH, represented by Communication Manager Troy Peters commended Pompey for giving back to the sport.

“Not many athletes will do what Aliann is doing especially after her success a few years back and she must be lauded for that but Banks DIH is proud to support the event by sponsoring the men’s 100m that will have a field of international athletes,” Peters mentioned.

The event will begin from 15:00h on Saturday with 19 finals set for the day’s action with former 100 metres World Champion Kim Collins set to grace the event with his presence in the Banks DIH men’s 100m.
