    The 2017 Digicel Senior National Squash Championships commenced on Tuesday evening at the Georgetown Club Courts with matches in three of the four categories that are being contested. 

    In the Men’s Open division both matches were won in four games. In the first match, Javed Rahaman outlasted Steven Xavier winning 12-10, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9, while Adam Alves defeated Douglas DeGroot 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6.

    In the Veterans Men’s 35-49, Khalil Alli won in straight games over Allan Downes 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 and Joe Mekdeci defeated Medhi Ramdhani 11-1, 11-8, 11-5.

    In the lone Veterans Men’s Over-50 match, David Fernandes showed better court coverage in his win over Robin Low 11-9, 11-6, 11-6.

    The tournament continues today (July 19) at 18:00h with round of sixteen matches in the Men’s Open; first round matches in the Women’s Open and more round-robin matches in the Veterans categories. The tournament will conclude on July 22.
