Contracting firm commended for completing Plaisance Project ahead of schedule

Residents of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara are expressing satisfaction with the construction of a bridge in the area, which was completed ahead of schedule.

The residents earlier this week reached out the News Room to express their gratitude to both the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and V. Dalip Enterprise Contracting Services.

The News Room was told that the project entailed the removal of a steel bridge structure which was replaced by a concrete structure. At least two residents from the community, who were not part of the project, but claimed to be verse in construction, said that they have been keeping an eye on the workers. The project was supervised by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and had a price tag of just about $20M.

The original schedule time for the completion of the project was two months but the contractor managed to complete the project in two weeks.

When the News Room contacted the Ministry, Maintenance Engineer Sherrod Parkinson explained that the ministry is indeed pleased with the works carried out by the contractor.

According to engineer, the ministry has managed to gather that the contractor was able to complete the project because of experience in similar work. The News Room understands that the contractor does most of the concrete and steelwork at a remote location and then those items are transported to the location for installation.

This method is considered very effective as the facility where the items are pre-prepared is an all-weather one which allows the contractor to carry out works in the most adverse of weather conditions.
