    Securing Grade one passes in eight units, Shawn Shewram of St Rose’s High and Vamanadev Hiralall of Saraswati Vidya Niketan topped this year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

    Guyana saw an increase of 7% pass rate at the 2017 CAPE and  achieved a 92.57% pass rate with Grades 1- 5, against 86.74% in 2016. 16.47% of the entries attained Grade 1, 22.90% attained Grade 2, 22.93 attained Grade 3, 18.08 attained Grade 4 while 13% of the students attained Grade 5.

    Other outstanding performers were Ashley Anthony and Shannon Woodroffe of Queen’s College who both achieved seven Grade ones. 100 % pass rate with Grades one to five passes were obtained in 30 units.

    Green Engineering was written for the first time of which a 100% pass rate was attained. Animation & Gaming Design was also a new subject this year and was written for the first time electronically along with Digital Media which also attained a 100% pass rate. 851 candidates wrote CAPE this year.
