CDC, Foreign Ministry open hotline for relatives of persons affected by Hurricane Irma

(Ministry of the Presidency, Georgetown, Guyana)- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in collaboration with the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) has established a hotline for Guyanese who are seeking information about their loved ones in the hurricane-affected island states, even as the CDC is working with the Private Sector Commission(PSC) and other stakeholders to dispatch much needed relief to the countries, which have undergone severe devastation.

Persons who have not yet heard from their relatives in any of the affected countries are invited to make enquiries via the hotline numbers: 226 1027, 226 1114, 226 1117, 600 7500 or 623 1700.

On Monday, the Government of Guyana had pledged an initial sum of US$50,000 to aid urgent relief efforts through the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) regional mechanism, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), in partnership with the Association of Caribbean States (ACS). Further assistance will be determined subsequent to the completion of a Needs Assessment.

Prime Minister, Mr. Moses Nagamootoo, who has been appointed Head of the Ministerial Task Force that will be responsible for oversight of the efforts of the Civil Defence Commission’s (CDC) National Risk Reduction Platform, which has since been activated, has pledged that strenuous efforts will be made to keep an open line of communication to ensure that relatives of those residing in hurricane-hit zones are provided with the necessary information regarding their loved ones.
