Some 27 Police Constables in ‘B’ Division completed their Pedal Cycle Training, on Friday; the programme officially commenced on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

The training focused on enhancing their riding skills with specific attention to safety and defense tactics in support of the community policing venture in the Guyana Police Force which will help to eradicate crime and traffic lawlessness within the division.

News Room understands that it will be a continuous training, which will be facilitated by five persons who recently attended a training programme in Nevada, Las Vegas.

According to Deputy Police Commander and Senior Superintendent, Edmond Cooper, cops who benefitted from the four days training, are now able to mount and kickstand, dismount, maximum effective braking and power slide cornering and barricade stopping.

“This training at this time will go a far way in helping the police to deal with criminal activities in terms of its prevention and eradication. This training will help in a sense at this time and the near future. We have to deal with our Christmas policing and our community policing efforts. This training is very important at this time to the police force. This training in my humble view is timely at a time that our stewardship and professionalism and our integrity is being called to question, it, therefore, means we have to do continuous training,” Senior Superintendent Cooper said.

He noted that the public can expect nothing but the best from the police and therefore ranks must always strive for excellence and to provide the best quality of service.

The Deputy Commander said that that the force is on the road to recovery and called on ranks to ensure that they continue to uphold the motto of the Guyana Police Force – Service and Protection. They were urged not to compromise their integrity and professionalism in this regard.

The Guyana Police Force has received 200 pedal cycles and accessories at a cost of US$145, 000 from the United States government.
