After a glimmer of hope on Wednesday, the Guyanese Women looked like they turned the corner before a surprising meltdown against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday afternoon when the Indoor Hockey Pan American Cup continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Guyana had an opportunity to position themselves to finish at least fourth with a win over Trinidad with one game in hand, but failed to hold onto a one goal lead.

After finally claiming a 5-1 win against Barbados on Wednesday and equalising against Trinidad in the 18th minute to make the score two-all on Thursday; Guyana went ahead just before the half with a goal on the stroke of half time through Marzana Fiedtkou, who also scored the equaliser.

However, with 18 minutes to go in the second half Guyana suffered a bizarre meltdown when Blair Wynne equalised for Trinidad in the 22nd minute.

Trinidad would go onto score three goals on the trot as a hapless Guyana seemed bewildered at the proceedings on the court. Wynne scored the sealer in the 40th minute, while Krizia Layne and Alanna Lewis scored goals in the 36th and 37th minutes respectively.

Earlier, Arielle Williams and Layne opened the scoring for the twin-island republic in the second and fifth minutes respectively, while Nicole Eastman scored a goal in the sixth minute for Guyana.

Meanwhile, the Guyanese Men on Wednesday trounced Mexico 12-0 to improve their chances of finishing in the top two.

Robert France was a man in form and took Mexico to school with eight goals out of the 12. France started by scoring two in the third and the others in the 12th, 14th, 24th, 25th, 27th and 29th minutes.

Jason De Santos (9th), Jamarj Assanah (15th), Andrew Stewart (26th) and Hilton Chester (34th) were the other scorers for Guyana. The tournament will continue for the remainder of the weekend with the final on Saturday evening.
