The University of Guyana has embarked on the project to build a Student Society Complex at a cost of $60.6M. The project, which began this month, is expected to be completed on February 11, 2018.

At a sod-turning ceremony Wednesday morning, the initiative was welcomed by not only current President of the University of Guyana’s Student Society (UGSS) but past Presidents as well, who have been lobbying for such a facility over the years.

Incoming President of the University of Guyana’s Student Society (UGSS), Norwell Hinds, noted that the complex serves in the best interest of the students.

Recently, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ivelaw Griffith related that the two-storied building will serve to address some of the space issues at the Turkeyen campus as it will also be used for classes.

On Wednesday, Ivelawsaid another aim of the Student Society Complex is to restore the vibrancy of the university’s student population.

The building, which is being constructed by M&P Investments, measures 7,650 sq feet.

The complex is among a list of other projects being undertaken by the University to improve the environment and increase the comfort of students and lecturers at the institution.
