Vehicles that were handed over by the Chinese Government to the Guyana Police Force earlier today

The handing over ceremony took place at the Police Sports Club ground at Eve Leary and Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, who represented Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan, said that the donation fits into the five-point plan of president David Granger as it relates to the strengthening the capacity and capability of the Guyana Police Force.

“That we must improve the police administration, that we must reorganise and enhance training of officers and ranks, there must be the effective deployment of ranks throughout the country, improve communications and fifthly the acquisition of assets and equipment,” Harmon said.

Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Cui Jianchun spoke of the cooperation between Guyana and China, the importance of public security and the need for the cooperation to be continued given the needs of the Guyana Police Force.

President David Granger, who delivered the feature address, emphasised the need for the police force to take care of the newly acquired resources.

“The transportation branch will be the main beneficiary and the Commissioner already has his directive that these transportation assets must be looking just like this on the 6 of November next year, clean efficient and serviceable. These assets will allow for the speeder movement across the country in any weather or terrain by day or by night to enable our law enforcement officers to reach crimes scenes and their various destination to continue their work in suppressing crime,” the Head of State said.
