A 30-year-old woman, who set allegedly set fire to the White Castle Fish Shop on John and Hadfield Streets, which is owned by her reputed husband, today appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, charged with arson.

Alexio Keizer of Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore and was released on $250,000 bail.

It is alleged that on April 14, 2018, she set fire to the building, which is owned by Krishnandra Beharry and valued at $8.3M. The fire reportedly resulted in $410,540,000 in damages to equipment and appliances.

The court heard that the woman’s reputed husband, Jermaine Langevine rents the building from Beharry.

Her lawyer, Bernard DaSilva, in his bail application explained to the court that his client is the mother of Langevine’s child.

Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne made no objection to bail; the accused is slated to return to court on May 30.

According to reports, the fire started around 02:30hrs and a swift response by the Fire Service prevented the flames from spreading to the entire building.
