The main suspect in the deadly April 27, 2018 pirate attack appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court this morning, slapped with two charges of robbery underarms, which he allegedly committed in 2015 and 2016.

Nakool Manohar, 39, called “Fyah”, a businessman of Number 43 Village, Corentyne Berbice was not required to plea to the indictable charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.

The first charge alleged that during the month of April 2015 in territorial waters of Guyana, while being in the company of others and armed with guns and knives, he robbed the fishing vessel called “Sir Navin” owned by Daneshwar Reddy of two outboard engines valued $1.8M.

The court also heard that during the month of August 2016 while being armed with guns and knives in the Corentyne River, he stole the vessel “Captain Finish valued $2.3M, the property of Vikash Balkisson.

Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield objected to the accused being released on bail on the grounds that he is the main suspect in the recent piracy attack off the coast of Suriname, which has left Guyanese fishermen dead.

The Prosecutor explained that the suspect is being investigated in relation to the murder of five fishermen and the attempted murder of 15 others.

The Magistrate remanded the businessman to prison until May 30 and transferred the matter to the Springlands Magistrate’s Court. He was represented by Attorney, Joel Edmond.
