The Government is moving ahead with the development of new housing schemes at Peters Hall and Providence on the East Bank of Demerera (EDB).

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) on Tuesday signed contracts with seven firms to complete roads, drains, culverts and other infrastructure works at the Peter’s Hall phase 2 and Providence phase 4 housing schemes.

Contracts totalling $357,265,761 were signed with Chung’s Global Enterprise, Eron Lall Civil Engineering Works, Guyamerica Construction and Colin Talbot contracting Services for works to be completed at Peter’s Hall phase 2.

Works to be completed at Providence, Phase 4 value some $188,537,360. Lots 1, 2 and 3 of the contracts were awarded to KB & B contractors, H. Nauth & Sons and Romell Jagroop General Construction Service.

Chief Executive Officer of the Housing authority, Lelon Saul said the contracts were awarded by the National Procurement and Tender Administration board.

According to Director of Projects at the CH&PA, Omar Narine, the projects will be completed over a five-month period. He also called on businesses to meet the demand of the contractors for stones and other materials which will be needed.

Narine said the contractors selected have all done work with the Housing Department before as he expressed confidence that the projects will be completed on time.
