A Police Constable on Tuesday found himself before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, charged with several traffic-related offences, including dangerous driving.

Twenty-five-year-old Rawl Welcome, who is attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded guilty to six charges.

The court heard that on May 6, 2018, at Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, Welcome rode motorcycle CH 1682 in a dangerous manner.

He was also charged with riding the motorcycle without insurance, road license and was uncertified for road use. Welcome was further charged for not being in possession of a license and failure to use a helmet.

Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore noted that on the day in question, Welcome was speeding along Vlissengen Road on the motorcycle with a pillion rider, when he overtook another vehicle, lost control of the motorcycle and collided with another vehicle.

Welcome and his pillion rider received injuries about their bodies.

Magistrate Latchman told Welcome that he “ought to know better” as she considered the prevalence of such crimes in society.

Welcome was fined a total of $250,000 or face seven months imprisonment in default of the payment.
