Guyana gets new Guatemalan envoy

President David Granger Wednesday morning welcomed to Guyana its newest non-resident Ambassador from Guatemala.

Ambassador Mario Estuardo Torres Townson delivered his letters of credence to President David Granger during a simple ceremony at State House.

Ambassador Townson is Guyana’s newest non-resident ambassador from the Central American State.

Guyana and Guatemala share more than two decades of uninterrupted bilateral relations since diplomatic ties were established between the two countries in May 1992.

In brief remarks, the Guatemalan envoy said he is looking forward to working with his Guyanese counterparts in further developing the relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.

President Granger, for his part, said he is ready and willing to work with Guatemala to develop a programme to strengthen cultural and economic ties.

Earlier in the day, Ambassador Townson met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge where they discussed areas of mutual interest.
