The third annual Indian Heritage Expo 2018 was launched Wednesday night with the goal of continuing the steady progress of rebuilding the cultural identity of indo-Guyanese.

The expo is being organised by the Guyanese Indian of Ancestry Association (GIAA) – an organisation formed out of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) – the group that holds the Annual Diya light up event.

One of the organisers, ShireramTalmakund told News Room during the launch of the event that there will be over 30 booths on display.

There will be exhibitions focused on infrastructure, entertainment, agriculture, education, fashion, culture, media, food, manufacturing, technology, arts and craft, business, and sports.

Talmakund emphasised that the event is not a Hindu activity; he said the expo is about reconnecting with Indian culture regardless of your religion.

The one-day expo will be held at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora, West Coast Demerara on May 26, 2018 from 12:00hrs.

Talmakund said the aim for next year is to bring similar events across the country and for longer periods.
