Sadness filled the air as friends and families converged at the Rose Hall Town Arch Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil in honour of Beyonce Ross – the 15-year-old girl who died just as her athletic career was thriving.

Fellow students and teachers of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School, family, friends, and residents stood shoulder to shoulder holding candles as they marched from the Arch to the teen’s Rose Hall home in her memory.

Beyonce was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early March and subsequently died on June 11, 2018.

She fell into a state of unconsciousness after suffering from a seizure but she never woke up at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

She passed shortly after discovering that the brain tumor was not cancerous, shattering hopes of a successful surgery and eventual recovery.

Her family was in the process of raising funds for her overseas surgery when she died.

Among those who attended the vigil were Regional Education Officer and Region Executive Officer of Region Six.

They reflected on the ambitiousness and potential of the young soul. Beyonce had won three gold medals at the National Cycling Championships in October 2017. She had hopes of being an Olympian for Guyana.

The teen will be laid to rest today. The funeral service will be held at the Rose Hall Community Centre Ground from 14:00hrs.
