The Ministry of Business on Thursday afternoon released a new fare structure for minibuses which will become effective on September 1st, 2018.

In a statement posted on the Ministry’s Facebook page, there are new fares for zones: 31, 32, 40, 41, 42, 44, 46, 46, 47, and 48 following an agreement with the United Minibus Union.

The transportation costs, according to the new structures, increased by $20.

“It should be noted that all minibus operators are required by law to display the fare structure in their buses,” the Business Ministry said.

For the zones not listed, the Ministry is urging operators to contact the United Minibus Union (UMU) to make representation on their behalf. Contact can be made through its President, Mr. Eon Andrews on mobile number +592 612 1517.

Following calls for increased fares earlier this month, a number of commuters raised concerns about the conduct of minibus drivers and conductors.

As a result, the minibus Union proposed a code of conduct for the operators which it promised to look at.
