A five-year-old boy has been admitted in an unconscious state at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he fell ill aboard MV Lady Northcote at around noon on Friday.

According to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Marian Santiago reportedly complained of feeling unwell as he was travelling from Georgetown to Mabaruma, Region One and his condition began to deteriorate.

The GDF said the parents sought the help of the vessel’s crew, who immediately radioed the Coast Guard station at Morawhanna for assistance.

“Coast Guard Ratings intercepted the vessel at the mouth of the Waini River, retrieved the child and his parents, and transported them to an awaiting ambulance at Kumaka, from where he was transported to the Mabaruma Hospital,” the GDF reported.

However, News Room contacted the Mabaruma Hospital where it was revealed that the child did not regain consciousness and was air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Public Relations Officer at the GPHC, Mitzy Campbell told News Room that doctors are running tests as the child remains unconscious.
