Pres. Granger to attend CSME meeting in Barbados

President David Granger will be heading to Barbados to attend the Ninth Meeting of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Single Market and Economy (CSME).

The meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, will examine recommendations for an effective CSME, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in a press release issued Tuesday.

President Granger will lead a Guyanese delegation which will comprise the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge.

According to the Ministry, the discussions at the meeting will include the Protocol on Contingent Rights, Simplified Administrative Procedures for Movement of Persons, Procedures on the Refusal of Entry of CARICOM Nationals, and the Entitlement of Haitian Nationals to an Automatic Stay of Six Months upon arrival in CARICOM Member States.

Further, the meeting will take into consideration Macroeconomic Support measures, specific key considerations for CSME effectiveness and also addressing non-compliance.

Commenting on his expectations of the outcome of the meeting, Minister Greenidge is quoted as saying “hopefully, the Member States have been able to move forward and will come to a conclusion on a number of outstanding critical issues.” 

This meeting was preceded by The Sixth Special Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning, which was held today, the Ministry noted.
