Delegates from 192 countries due here for aviation meeting

Delegates from 192 countries are expected in Guyana towards the end of November for a meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The meeting will be held from November 21 – 23 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre under the theme “Promoting connectivity for sustainable transport development.”

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Union are among key players behind the meeting. Approximately 400 delegates are expected to attend.

On Monday, Minister of State Joseph Harmon stated that the meeting will focus on harmonising the regulatory framework for regional air transport, air cargo liberalisation, as well as air transport and tourism.

Members of the African Union will be looking to connect with the African diaspora in the Caribbean.

Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Colonel Egbert Field is heading a committee which is finalising plans for the meeting.

At the 4th annual ICAO World Aviation Forum in Fortaleza, Brazil this week, major momentum to increase global public and private sector attention on air transport development priorities, particularly in the Americas, has been achieved, ICAO stated.

The meeting culminated in the adoption of a declaration to promote connectivity through the development and sustainability of air transport in the Pan-American Region.

Through the establishment of a framework commitment to collaborate in the sustainable growth of air transport, this Declaration intends to promote investment for the development of civil aviation throughout the Americas for a 15 year period, ICAO stated.
