No controversy over Diwali date this year

There is no controversy in Guyana this year over the date for the celebration of Diwali and so all celebrations will take place on Tuesday, November 6.

Both the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, which represents the majority of Hindus countrywide, and the recently formed Viraat Sabha have agreed with the date.

For the last three Diwalis, there were divided celebrations as the Ministry of Public Security agreed with the opinion of the Viraat Sabha and announced the Diwali date according. This was a day apart from the date the Dharmic Sabha recommended.

The Dharmic Sabha will hold its countrywide motorcades as usual, with the largest slated for Monday, November 5 from Georgetown to the East Coast.

The motorcade will, however, culminate at the Chateau Margot ground instead of the LBI Ground because of ongoing works at the LBI ground.
