A mother of seven, Ina Barnwell-Bacchus is Guyana’s latest centenarian.

According to a press release from the Region Four Democratic Council (RDC), the resident of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara (EBD), bore seven children and has outlived four with the living eldest being 71-years- old.

Members of the RDC and Minister of Social Cohesion, Amna Ally who is also the General Secretary of the PNC/R joined the elderly woman on Monday, November 05 to celebrate her birthday.

L-R Chairman of the Mocha Arcadia NDC, Rudolph Adams, Regional Chairman Genevieve Allen, Ina Barnwell-Bacchus, Minister Amna Ally and her eldest living child Lance Bacchus, while her other two surviving children stands at the back as they all strike a pose.

Minister Amna Ally, who represented both her ministry and the Party, said that Guyana is very proud to record yet another centenarian in its history, according to the statement.

Offering words of advice to persons for long life, Ina urged all to be thankful and contented with what they have and noted that she has always be very grateful for whatever God has given to her.

“Be thankful and contended as that is all I can say as there is no big secret to long life and I must wish myself a happy birthday because I am loss for words,” Ina was quoted saying.

Despite being unable to do her chores with much vigour, the elderly woman is not affected by diabetes nor hypertension.

“As you know that when you meet this age you would have some challenges so being a 100 is both a blessing and a curse,” the woman’s eldest son said.

Regional Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Ms Genevieve Allen expressed delight that yet another resident of Region Four is celebrating what she called “the golden milestone.”

The NDC of Mocha Arcadia, through its chairman, Rudolph Adams presented a brand new recliner chair to Ms Bacchus in observation of her birthday while the RDC, Ministry of Social Protection and supporters of the PNC/R presented an LFS Burnham draped medal to an almost emotional Ina Bacchus.
