Three top international airlines, including United Airlines, are eyeing the Guyana market, Finance MinisterWinston Jordan told the News Room Friday.

“These are not fly-by-night one plane airlines,” Minister Jordan stated.

The Finance Minister confirmed that United Airlines is in talks with the Government, but he did not want to releasethe names of the other two interested airlines.

United Airlines is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois and is considered the world’s third-largest airline when measured by revenue, after American Airlines and Delta. American Airlines only recently commenced direct flights between Guyana and Miami.

At the end of November, United Airlines announced it has reached an agreement with Copa and Avianca for a jointbusiness agreement (JBA) that, pending Government approval, is expected toprovide substantial benefits for customers, communities and the marketplace forair travel between the United States and 19 countries in Central and SouthAmerica.

Copa itself announced Thursday that it will be adding another flight to its Guyana-Panama route with onwardconnections effective December 9, 2018.

Copa will operate the additional flighton Fridays, adding to existing flights on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Its decision to add an additional flight is based on increasing demand and is part of the airline’s ongoing plans toexpand and improve its service to the people of Guyana.

Copa doubled its flights in 2015 to four in response to increased requests from passengers to expand the service.
