President leaves for more treatment Christmas Day

President David Granger leaves Guyana Christmas Day for further chemotherapy in Cuba, days after his Government collapsed with the passage of a No Confidence motion in the National Assembly.

The President Monday morning called a meeting of his Ministers and the heads of the Army and the Police at his office.

The President has not appeared in public since he returned to Guyana on December 11 from his second round of chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a form of cancer.

This would be the President’s third phase of chemotherapy. At this stage, the President has now shaved the hair off his head. It is common for a person to lose their hair while undergoing chemotherapy.

The President, in statement Saturday said, his government will abide by the stipulations of the Constitution on the NO Confidence motion.

The President has to dissolve Parliament and set a date for elections within three months.

The President is receiving his treatment and evaluation at the Centro de Investigaciones Medico Quirurgicas (CIMEQ) in Havana.
