18-Y-O gives birth to Berbice Christmas baby

A five-pound baby boy, born at 03:45hrs on Christmas Day, is the lone East Berbice Corentyne Christmas baby.

The baby was born to 18-year-old Hansranie Latchana of Belvedere, Berbice and her husband, a cane harvester, Azim Ali, also 18.

The baby is the first for the couple and was delivered at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

According to Latchana, she was initially given December 19 as her due date but did not experience labour pains until recently.

She had a normal delivery and both the baby and mother are healthy.

While admitting they would have preferred an earlier date to be home for the holidays, the couple agreed that a Christmas Day baby was indeed something special and now have more reasons to celebrate.
