The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the New Amsterdam Hospital Dr. Samantha Kennedy was officially relieved of her duties a mere three months after she began her stint on November 5, 2018.

The announcement to let go of Dr. Kennedy was made at the RDC meeting on Thursday.

Chairman of the Regional Health Committee Zamal Hussain said the decision was taken on Wednesday following a meeting with Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Health Colette Adams, Director of Regional and Clinical services Dr. Kay Shako and Director Regional Health Services Jevaughn Stephens.

Several issues were highlighted in the press as it relates to the mismanagement of the hospital.

On January 30, Berbicians staged a picketing exercise in front of the hospital and called for the removal of the CEO following reports of poor health care delivery in the region.

Hussain also noted that the RDC tried in vain to contact the CEO to discuss the issues plaguing the public health institution.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health has since separated the accident and emergency services from the outpatient unit of the hospital.

Further, in an effort to boost the health system in the Region, the Ministry also promised to fill the over 100 vacancies that exist at New Amsterdam Hospital at the earliest.

Additionally, the hospital will benefit from the construction of a new mortuary.

Recently bodies were left to rot at the facility due to the non-functioning of the morgue.
