Police Force commends bravery of cop who survived plane crash

Members of the Guyana Police Force Tuesday visited Police Constable Mark Grimmond survived a horrific plane crash on Monday night.

A statement from the Police Force noted that the rank is in high spirits at the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital where he is nursing multiple fractures to his face and lacerations about the body.

The Force wished him “a speedy recovery while commending his bravery and heroism.”

The single-engine aircraft crashed after running out of fuel at around 18:44hrs Monday in the vicinity of the Canal Number 2 Polder Conservancy, West Bank Demerara.

The Pilot, Captain Lincoln Gomez also survived the accident; he suffered a broken jaw and other injuries to his face and shoulder and is at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Public Relations Officer at the hospital, Mitzy Campbell told the News Room that the pilot is in a stable condition.

The aircraft is owned by US-based Gospel Ministries International.

The aircraft was at the time transporting the body of one of a missionary and director of the Kaikan Bible School operating in Guyana, Christopher Matthews from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Mathews on Monday morning slipped while climbing the Pakaranbo mountain and died, leaving his wife and two small daughters.
