Broad St. fire victims get help

Magnum Mash Cup organisers in collaboration with the National Sports Commission provided some temporary relief to the struggling victims who lost everything in a fire on March 2.

A representative of Magnum SannSports Esan Griffith visited the site of the fire and made a generous donation of $120,000 to six families who suffered the most from the ordeal.

“We of SannSports…know that this is a very touching time for you; you lost your homes in the fire. We just concluded our football tournament and want to give back to communities. Broad Street is one of the teams that played in that tournament so we wanted to give back in a small way to the community that supported us,” Griffith said. it’s not much but every little bit counts”

The families appear to have already started putting their houses back together but told the media they would require wood zinc and other materials to rebuild.

The fire reportedly started around 8 am at the Lombard and Broad streets property, which is owned by a private citizen. Nine houses were estimated to have been destroyed.

It was suspected to be an act of arson and one man was taken into custody.
