GWI cuts charges for public services

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has removed charges for water which will be used for public conveniences in towns and municipalities nationwide.

The GWI in a statement on Sunday said the decision to extend this concession to all municipalities came on the heels of a meeting between the management of Guyana Water Incorporated and the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown.

“In the case of the capital city – Georgetown, sewerage charges will also be cut for these facilities,” GWI said.

According to the statement, Managing Director of GWI, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles informed the M&CC that GWI will perform an assessment of the internal plumbing of the public restrooms and share the reports with the Council.

To avoid water wastage, GWI will also be having discussions with the municipalities to optimize the water consumption at these facilities.

GWI will be installing meters at the identified locations in an effort to consistently monitor consumption.
