With plans to accommodate over 500 students, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS) is constructing a new Primary School and is also adding a Secondary School to its educational facilities.

The two storey concrete building is being constructed next door to the parking lot of Giftland Mall at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara and will cost approximately $260M according to President of the Sabha, Dr Vindhya Persaud.

“We’re by no means in possession of all of the funds but we’re hoping that persons who like us, want to see more educational opportunities for young people, they will come onboard,” Dr Persaud told the News Room during an interview at the site on Monday morning.

The organisation operates the Rama Krishna play school, nursery and primary schools next door to the Rama Krishna Mandir in Kitty Georgetown.

President of the Sabha, Dr. Vindhya Persaud and other esteemed leaders held a simple prayer ceremony to bless the construction site

However, Dr Persaud noted that the current building is beginning to get a bit cramped for space.

She said the organisation hopes to complete the project by the end of 2019.

“If we overrun by a few months early in the year, at least we want to start from the September term of next year,” the GHDS President said.

The facility, she explained, will be a U-shaped two storey concrete building with approximately 24 classrooms including a Music room along with Science and Information Technology Laboratories. GThere will also be a staging area for Dance, Yoga and extra-curricular activities, she said.

On Monday, Dr Persaud and other esteemed leaders held a simple prayer ceremony to bless the construction site located next to the Giftland Mall.

    Construction is ongoing

“We have had very good meetings with the Giftland management and we’ll be neighbours so I believe in having very cordial relationships, good relationships with those around. I don’t see any issue. The location is very good.”

The Dharmic Rama Krishna Primary School has been in the news over the past years as its students continue to be among the country’s top performers at the National Grade Six Assessment.
