The Guyana Government on Wednesday said it is following with attention and deep concern the evolution of events in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in particular with regard to the potential for grave consequences both for its civilian population, and for the peace and security of Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The Reuters news agency reported that Opposition leader Juan Guaido has called for the “largest march” in Venezuela’s history to try to dislodge President Nicolas Maduro.

“Guyana reiterates its rejection of violence and the threat or use of force as acceptable means for the resolution of conflict, and calls upon all parties involved to vigorously pursue the search for a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis for the benefit and wellbeing of the Venezuelan people,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Guaido on Tuesday urged the armed forces to support his effort to oust Maduro and appeared outside an air force base with dozens of National Guard members.

“But there were no concrete signs of defection from the armed forces leadership, despite a years-long deep economic crisis and support for Guaido from the United States and other Western nations,” Reuters reported.
