Alicia Brown-Deeges and her beautiful daughter, Aleria stole the hearts of many fans Saturday evening at the 28th production of the annual Mother and Daughter Pageant at the National Cultural Centre, copping the winning prizes for the senior category.

Elegantly dressed in their glistening purple creative and fashionable outfits, the audience was confused for a bit when they strutted across the stage about who was the mother and who was the daughter as both women looked captivating in their outfits.

Taking the second place was Hissa Jones and daughter, Ocilintia. The third place was won by Lisa Nicholas and her gorgeous daughter, Breana.

The middle category was won by Subbrina Marcus and her daughter Nashavia as they beautifully rocked matching green and pink outfits across the stage. Coming in second place was Cedil Burgess and Kiara, while Winetta Bayley and daughter, Shavana came in third.

The junior category was won by Jenel Cox Greaves and her mini-me Trinity, creatively attired in matching royal blue African outfit.

The junior category kicked off the show and saw seven contestants grace the stage. In third position were Yulisa Douglas and her beautiful princess, Gabrielle, Patricia Herbert and her daughter Tahara came in second.

Each mother and daughter pair elegantly showcased their colourful, creative and sophisticated designs.
Twenty-two mothers and daughters contested in the three categories.

The contestants graciously took to the stage in their fairytale and modern attires. The unconditional love and bond between mother and daughter were demonstrated in the most fashionable and elegant way but only three persons from each category could have been awarded.

The annual production is a celebration for Mother’s Day.

The pageant was held under the theme, ‘The Superpower of Love” and is produced by Supa Stylistics Promotions, headed by Dr Sulan Fung-Browne and her mother, Ingrid Fung.

The attendees were treated to a Red Carpet welcome, compliments of MovieTowne Guyana.

Two hours before the show started, persons had the opportunity to take pictures with popular movie characters such as Iron Man, Captain America and Super Woman among others.

Excited chatter could be heard along with the music from steel pans on the red carpet.

Hundreds of persons attended the event to support those onstage. Mothers and daughters duos were dressed in matching outfits, while there were also some fathers and other family members matching as they cheered from the moment the curtains were opened.

Even though the show was based on mothers and daughters, a special segment on the programme allowed fathers on stage modelling and strutting with their daughters.

The audience saw performances from the National Dance Company and live performances from the Heatwave Band.

The Audience was surprised and on their feet when singer, Calvin Burnett left the stage and presented a rose to the Patron for the pageant, First Lady Sandra Granger. They were even more surprised when she took the mic from Burnett and sang a line from popular song, ‘I want to know what love is’.

There were also a lot of giveaways to the audience from some of the sponsors of the pageant. Persons won food hampers from the New Nigel’s Supermarket, while everyone received coupons for discounts at popular businesses around Georgetown. MovieTowne is also offering free passes to mothers on Mother’s day to view any movie of their choice
