Foreign Ministers of CARICOM and Cuba will be in Georgetown for their sixth meeting on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre.

Among areas of mutual interest on the agenda are CARICOM-Cuba relations and issues pertinent to the region such as climate change, tourism, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here announced Wednesday.

Visiting Cuban Foreign Minister, His Excellency Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, is also expected to meet with Guyana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Karen Cummings and President David Granger.

Guyana, along with Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Cuba on December 8, 1972.

“Cuba continues to play a key collaborative role in the development of CARICOM Member States particularly in the areas of disaster management, agriculture, and health, among others,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Of note in Guyana is the establishment of a regional centre for the stimulation of development in children, adolescents and young people with special educational needs associated with disabilities.

Commissioned in December 2017 in the compound of the Cyril Potter College of Education, Turkeyen, it has facilitated the training of individuals in a number of specialized areas, such as speech therapy and psychology.
