NEW ELECTIONS: CCJ to decide on consequential orders by July 12

With no consensus from the parties involved, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has set a deadline “on or before July 12” to make orders, having decided that the December 21 No Confidence motion was properly passed and that the Chairman of the elections commission was unconstitutional.

President of the Court, Justice Adrian Saunders encouraged the President and the Opposition Leader to meet and find consensus.

The President had written the Opposition Leader to a meeting after today’s hearing.

The Court gave the main parties – the Opposition Leader, the Attorney General and GECOM – to present up to 20 pages of written submissions to the court by July 1 on what consequential orders should be made.

The additional timeline was in request by the Attorney General and GECOM for an additional one week to discuss the matter.
